Is the mobile Web the future?
A recently released study by the Pew Research Center’s Internet & American Life Project reveals a spike in wireless usage by Americans. About 56 percent of adults have used laptops, smart phones, and other devices to connect wirelessly to the Internet.
The most eye-opening statistic was the increase in cell-phone usage to access the Internet: 32 percent said they have used a phone to e-mail, send an instant message, or find information.
Said Pew researcher John B. Horrigan: “Mobile access strengthens the three pillars of online engagement: connecting with others, satisfying information queries, and sharing content with others.” (Emphasis added.)
As we create content for the Web, we should heed those words to engage our users.
