Smart journalism — from nonjournalists

These days, some of the most thought-provoking journalism isn’t coming from journalists. It’s coming from the experts themselves.

Check out the post today about the Baucus bill at the Baseline Scenario economics blog by James Kwak. He astutely points out that the bill will cost middle-income families $140 billion more than other proposals, even though the total cost of the proposal ($860 billion) is less than the House’s proposal ($1 trillion).

In the age of the Internet, expert bloggers offer an important complement to the dwindling base of journalists.
